For the purpose of evaluating the antibacterial activities of some restorative materials
to major cariogenic bacteria, the size and patterns of inhibition zone of amalgam,
composite resin, glass ionomer cement, and glass cermet cement to Streptococcus
mutans and Lactobacillus salivarius were assessed with diffusion-in-gel method.
The results were as follows :
1, To Streptococcus mutans was revealed strong antibacterial effect with glass cermet
cement, glass ionomer cement, amalgam In order.
2. The antibacterial activity to Lactobacillus salivarius was revealed with glass ionomer
co-ment and glass cermet cement. And the former was stronger.
3. Streptococcus showed higher sensitivity than Lactobacillus salivarius in every
material examined.
